Connie Au is the Director Marketing Specialist at Julius Baer. Outside of work, Connie is the WiFA Marketing Lead. In her 2021 Spotlight Series Interview, she discusses her career journey, how she stays competitive, her motivation, and much more.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself

For the past decade, I have been  a marketing specialist in the financial services industry. My career began in advertising and PR agencies. When a marketing position became available, and I was referred by my previous boss, I took the opportunity to transition to an in –house role in banking. Gradually I stepped into marketing and management roles in asset management companies, listed companies, and private banks. Apart from my everyday work, I picked up marketing consultancy roles in NGOs.

2. How do you stay on top of your professional game? Any tips on how you keep your competitive edge?

In the marketing world, it is an ever-changing game. Especially being a marketer in the finance industry, there are continuous updates of regulatory requirements that must be followed. From traditional advertising to advertorials, from printed form to digital and social media, the marketing world is non-stop. To keep up your competitive edge, I would encourage one to be open-minded, willing to learn and be alert. Most importantly, be proud of your achievements, and enjoy what you do.

3. What has kept you motivated to succeed this past year?

During the past twelve months, we have had to quickly adopt to new modes of marketing solutions in the financial world. I would say it is challenging, but the satisfaction of my work has kept me motivated in the past year. Of course, the support from my great team and company has been very important. It provides me  multiple opportunities to work more closely with different parts of the world, especially other APAC countries. I am expecting an even more challenging and rewarding role in our activities, where increasing our engagements and interactions in the coming year will be a top priority.
