The Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX), one of WIFA’s corporate sponsors since 2019, has set a new milestone by appointing its first-ever female CEO, Bonnie Chan. Chan, a co-chief operating officer, will replace outgoing CEO Nicolas Aguzin when his contract ends in May 2024. She will take the helm of a transformation strategy that seeks to make the HKEX a leading global player in the evolving financial landscape.
Chan has a proven track record of accomplishments, and she has played a key role in driving the HKEX’s transformational agenda. Her appointment, therefore, instills confidence in stakeholders that the exchange is in safe hands. Chan’s appointment is an example of a forward-thinking and innovative approach to leadership that reflects the HKEX’s vision and values. Laura Cha, the HKEX’s chairwoman, expressed her gratitude to Aguzin for his role in promoting Hong Kong’s financial markets worldwide. Cha’s appreciation showcases the HKEX’s commitment to acknowledging the contribution of all employees and stakeholders and promoting an inclusive and diverse workplace culture.
As a woman breaking through the glass ceiling in a traditionally male-dominated industry, Chan’s appointment is a significant step forward for gender diversity and inclusivity. The HKEX’s commitment to promoting these values highlights its willingness to foster a workplace that’s more equitable and diverse. With Bonnie Chan at the helm, the future looks bright for the HKEX and Hong Kong’s financial industry.
WIFA ends the year on this positive and uplifting note. Upon reflection, our September newsletter highlighted the first 6 months of our achievements. Since then, WIFA completed the WIFA x RUN Hong Kong signature fitness challenge — we exceeded our fundraising goal to provide vital resources to refugees in need. And the ESG Series #PowerToChange kicked off two events (Nov 29 & Dec 5) which provided insights from industry pioneers, thought leaders, and visionaries driving change in sustainable finance. The Mentor Mentee Program hosted interactive events that gave mentees insights in navigating their career journey . As we look ahead to 2024, we are eager to collaborate with our Advisory Board and Steering Committee to finalize our event schedule and continue making a difference in our community.
These past events are just the beginning of shaping our future together. All of this is only possible with the help of our highly dedicated Steering Committee members, generous corporate sponsors, and supportive members! WIFA looks forward to what the future will bring – let’s continue to move towards a more equitable world in finance together!
Wishing you Happy Holidays and a Wonderful New Year!
