When asked, how would you introduce/ define yourself?
I am a journalist, a
feminist, a connector and someone passionate about working to make the world a
more comfortable place for people of diverse backgrounds.
What is your current role at WiFA? (sponsor/committee member)
My organization is a
sponsor and partner of WiFA via the Bloomberg Women’s Community in Hong Kong
What are your key goals in BWC this year?
My key goals for BWC
this year are to connect more frequently with our partner organizations in Hong
Kong and work to enact real change in the D&I space by collaborating. We
should actually be celebrating International Women’s Day throughout the whole
year, and I’d like to see us doing that by offering support and help for our
members to succeed.
Tell us one thing that is important for #CreatingTheWorkforceOfTheFuture.
One of the most
important things I think of about the workforce of the future is that it will
allow women and men to mentor each other — in ways large and small — on a
regular basis, and throughout their careers. There is plenty more senior
managers can learn from workers on their way up, and vice versa. Also, male
allies are incredibly important for women as they rise in their organizations.
I’d like to see more attention paid to everyday mentoring and sponsorship of
one another.
What advice would you give to women who want to lead?
First, do the work.
Every day — you can’t skip steps, you have to show up, show you’re capable and
work very hard and smart. Stay connected. Help others along the way, this is
incredibly important to building a sustainable network. And in the end, find
something you love and you are passionate about; true leaders shine because
they care, deeply, about their industry, their organization and the people with
whom they collaborate.
Tell us one unexpected/
fun fact about you.
A fun fact: I collect
postcards from all over the world. Whenever I travel, I buy a few postcards,
and I ask friends when they travel to bring some back. I especially love
historic or vintage post cards. Don’t ask me what I plan to do with all of
these — it’s fun just to look over them and see where everyone has been!
