What is your current role, and your connection with WiFA?

I am head of Equities, Asia at Tradeweb, responsible for our offerings in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), equity futures & options, and convertible bonds. We are a global company, building and operating electronic marketplaces that provide trading solutions across multiple products and regions. Just like a search engine, we connect buyers and sellers of financial instruments, helping our customers find the best price and execution method for their transactions.

I am the Co-Chair of WiFA’s Thought Leadership Team. I am also Co-Chair of Asia’s Women in ETFs (WE), a mentor for the Fruits in Suits (FinS) Association in Hong Kong, a member of the Young Investors Society, as well as Chair of Tradeweb’s Asia Regional Diversity Committee.

Why and how do you support WIFA?

I am passionate about gender diversity and equality. I believe in mentoring and setting an example for other women in our industry, ultimately contributing towards their professional growth and success. Taking control of your future becomes much easier when someone shows you how to best overcome the barriers that may be holding you back.

What accomplishment are you most proud of in shifting the gender diversity dial and empowering women to achieve their full professional potential?

Several years ago, I attended a conference that had no women among its 50+ speakers. So I approached the organisers and enquired about the lack of female participants. I joined forces with other companies to say that we would not support their upcoming events unless they addressed the issue. As a result, the organisers now ensure not only the participation of female speakers, but also the inclusion of diversity panels and initiatives in their conference schedule.

Tell us one thing that is important for #CreatingTheWorkforceOfTheFuture

Leading by example and standing up for what you believe in. That’s the most effective way to achieve your objectives and reach your full potential.

In addition, it’s important that everyone has access to the same opportunities, and is treated equally and fairly in the workplace. Feeling valued is essential and benefits both the business and the individual.

What advice would you give to women who want to advance their career?

There is a time and place for everything. Stand up for what you believe in, but also find allies in and outside of your organisation, who can provide you with guidance, support and mentoring. The Tradeweb Women’s Network, for example, partners with organizations from both the Financial Services and the Technology communities to strengthen relationships with female peers and help increase female representation in the Fintech space.
